Job Openings

Applications are always considered for postdoctoral positions in our laboratory.  The details of the specific research projects are open for discussion, and would encompass one or more of the ongoing efforts in our laboratory (check the Research link on the left).  Extensive experience in surface science-UHV work and a good background in surface chemistry are desirable.  Knowledge in infrared spectroscopy is a plus.  Some positions may involve aspects of materials chemistry.

Applicants should email Prof. Francisco Zaera the following:

  • A curriculum vitae
  • A publication list
  • Copies of a couple of representative recent preprints
  • An essay about your skills, work habits, etc.
  • Three letters of recommendation

Graduate Students

Chemistry Department

There is always room in our laboratory for qualified graduate students.  However, candidates must first apply and be accepted to our UCR Chemistry Graduate Program.  You need to fill out our Departmental application form on the web, and submit your undergraduate (and graduate if available) transcripts and GRE scores, and have three letters of recommendation sent to the Department of Chemistry on your behalf.

International students are also required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).  Preference for admission is given to international students with a TOEFL iBT score of at least 80 and a score of at least 17 on the speaking portion of the exam.

Be advised that our minimum requirements are a GPA of 3.0 or better and a combined Verbal + Quantitative GRE score of 1100 or above.  Because applications from international students are highly competitive, preference is given to those with a GPA above 3.2 and a combined Verbal + Quantitative GRE score of 1400 or higher.  Research experience is also highly desirable.  International students are advised to submit the above information to Prof. Zaera and to contact him to discuss their interest and record before formally applying to the UCR Chemistry Graduate Program.

Graduate Program in Materials Science and Engineering

Our laboratory is also a participating member of the recently established Materials Science and Engineering Program at UCR.

General Information about the program can be found at their UCR link for the MS&E Program
