Transition Metal Dichalcogenides

Transition Metal Dichalcogenides such as MoS2 have a layered structure with a metal layer sandwiched between two chalcogen layers as shown in the figure. Astonishingly, these materials can be prepared at the single layer limit and exhibit direct-bandgap semiconducting properties. They have many exciting chemical and physical properties from hydrodesulfurization catalysts to potential as (opto-) electronic and spintronic material. We prepare a wide range of TMD materials & alloys and characterize their properties. Examples of our work can be found via the links on the right.
